The Massachusetts model for dismantling Obamacare
Written by Mike Stopa
Monday, 30 August 2010 15:44

At a press conference today, Mike unveiled his plan for defunding, delaying, and ultimately repealing Obamacare. Appropriately, he used a blueprint that was successful in overturning the Massachusetts Universal Healthcare Bill signed by Governor Dukakis in 1988.

Standing with Mike on the steps of the Massachusetts State House was State Representative Betty Poirier, whose husband Kevin, was one of the key lawmakers instrumental in defeating "Dukakiscare."

Included here is the plan which includes an Executive Summary, the Case for Repealing Obamacare, the Plan to Repeal Obamacare, and free market alternatives that will provide better healthcare reform.

You can download and read Mike's plan here on his website:

MWD OpEd: How the Stimulus Hurt Private Investment
Written by Mike Stopa
Sunday, 22 August 2010 17:51

The Obama Administration's central narrative on the economy is this: the stimulus has worked, growth has begun again, and job creation, always the lagging indicator, is sure to follow this upward trajectory in the overall recovery.

There is mounting evidence, however, that the actual trajectory of the economy is less like a jet taking off and more like a projectile that has passed its peak. On July 30, the Commerce Department released revised figures on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2010 showing 3.7 percent growth in the first quarter and 2.4 percent growth in the second quarter. Projections for the third quarter are currently hovering around 1.1 percent. Another report emerged Friday with more bad news as non-farm payrolls fell in July a "larger-than-expected" 131,000. Sandwiched by these two hits, the resignation last week of the chairwoman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, Christina Romer, is being taken by some as a signal that the administration is re-evaluating its economic narrative. This is probably wishful thinking.

How to Kill Obamacare... A Blueprint That’s Worked Before!
Written by Mike Stopa
Sunday, 22 August 2010 17:48

Mike Stopa recently appeared on a production of ‘Libertarian Republican’ with Eric Dondero and Andre Traversa. In this podcast clip, he lays out a clear blueprint for getting rid of Obama Care. If the Republicans gain control of the House in November, he puts forward a plan to de-fund Obamacare, similar to what happened to successfully derail Dukakiscare in Massachusetts nearly two decades ago.

Mike and Ruzena on WCRN
Written by Mike Stopa

Listen to a terrific interview with Mike Stopa on the Mike Wade Show on WCRN radio in Worcester (830 AM). Mike had ample opportunity to expound on his unusual background for a politician, why he got into the race, and the most important issues facing the country that he hopes to be able to help solve as part of the next Congress. He talked about how the district is not as liberal as some would think and was handily won by Scott Brown this year.

Mike was followed on the program by Rezena Tupy, a member of the Stopa Committee, talking about her days of growing up under Communist rule in Czechoslovakia, escaping to Yugoslavia in 1983, and finally becoming a legal immigrant in the United States. She talked about what it was like under Communism, how it’s so much different and better here, and her fear that we are in danger of becoming what she escaped in Czechoslovakia.

Two comments on the issue of mosques
Written by Mike Stopa

A recent New York Times article chronicles the growing vocal discontent over the building of mosques in communities across America. The article should be read. It presents reasonable arguments from both sides. In particular, the argument is made by some of the anti-mosque protesters that mosques are not exclusively places of worship but are, on some occasions, places where violence is planned. There are two major points, somewhat related to this idea, which I think are overlooked in this debate.
